Why not Milwaukee, Jake Peavy?
I’ve been very interested in the daily Jake Peavy trade rumors.
What
I don’t understand, though, is why Peavy didn’t put the Brewers on his
list of 8 teams he would be willing to go to via trade. Why Jake,
why?
Let’s break this down…shall we?
MILWAUKEE IS COMING OFF A PLAYOFF YEAR IN 2008.![]()
MILWAUKEE IS COMMITTED TO WINNING NOW AS EVIDENCED BY THE 5YR/100MM OFFER MADE TO C.C. SABATHIA A FEW DAYS AGO.
THE BREWERS HAVE THEIR CORE TALENT RETURNING IN ’09.
PRINCE FIELDER———————————->Stud.
RICKIE WEEKS——————————————–>Not so much.
(Okay, you get the point)
THE BREWERS HAVE A NEW BALLPARK WITH FIRST CLASS AMENITIES.
A retractable roof (we know you pitchers love a controlled climate).
First class workout facilities (to prevent injury and increase strength).
Massage therapists catering to your every need (!!!).
Great post! I hope Peavy is reading it, because he’ll totally put the Brewers on his wish list.

Hmmm, not sure why he wouldn’t, but maybe he will notice you guys soon. You guys have good hunting up there too, right? He might be interested, but of course, I hope he just STAYS IN SAN DIEGO!!!!

I’m pretty sure it would take Gamel AND Escobar at the absolute least to land Peavy, and that would be overpaying by a lot.

REALTALK…
I’m pretty sure the Padres primarily want young pitching in return for Peavy with probably 1 position player to boot. I don’t think that’s too far out of the realm of possibility. Everyone around Milwaukee’s always talking about winning now. Getting Peavy sure would put the Brewers in position to succeed in ’09.
What’s the alternative to not entertaining a trade for Peavy? Hoping half of our roster was underachieving last year and improves this coming year? Hoping our surplus of minor league talent develops quickly?
Seriously, we don’t even have room for half of these stud prospects up here at the big league level. Take a look around our minor league system. A lot of potential with only a few spots to crack the roster (this would be a good blog topic).
I’m not a big believer in free agency for the smaller markets. Making trades is the way to go. The Padres are finding out the market for Peavy is hesitant to say the least. This would be a good opportunity for the Brewers to land a bonafide ace with a reasonable contract for a few years.
Let me ask you this…did you like the Sabathia trade? Probably, and we only had him for four months!!
