It’s official…

I was just finishing up my shift around 6am this morning (Wednesday the 10th of November) and heard on sports radio 1250 WSSP (here in Milwaukee) that the big fella has officially accepted the Yankees offer.

Is this really a surprise to anyone?

Most of us around Milwaukee knew he was just a rent-a-type when we obtained him from the Indians.  Yeah, we gave up a lot to get him (young stud-Matt LaPorta, among others) but it was well worth it.  You ask anyone around Milwaukee that question…they’ll tell you.

C.C. sent us to the promised land nearly by himself.  He put the team on his burly back and carried us to the Wild Card.  All those complete games down the stretch…he was awesome.

I was three years old (1982) when the Brewers last made the playoffs!  The 2008 season will forever be one of the greatest years as long as I live.  I was there, sitting in the front row of the bleachers, waiting for a prized playoff game home run to come for both Game 3 and Game 4 of the NLDS.  While the souvenir home run never came, a ton of memories did.

Actually, the day the Brewers clinched the Wild Card, I was on the front row of the Brewers dugout during their celebration.  I was sprayed with champagne by everyone from Mike Cameron to Robin Yount. That was an amazing experience!  For the first time in my life, we were champs!

My wife took this picture from above the Brewers dugout during the celebration

Check out what I was a part of first hand that last wild card clinching day…even if you’re not a Brewers fan.

Also, I would like to revisit a blog post I made November 13th, 2008.

Check it out by clicking here.

I’m not sure where the Brewers go from here…tough to say.  Management has already told us not to expect the C.C. money to be directed elsewhere:(  They said he was a special case.

One thing is for certain…if they don’t get a decent # 2 pitcher, they’re in for an uphill battle to compete with the hated Cubs, the bounce back Cardinals, the veteran Astros and the young Reds (sorry Pittsburgh).

Why do the Yanks get all the good players??? Oh well, I’m sure he will do well there. He was so amazing for you guys. I think the Padres had to face him twice last year. Let’s just say that we didn’t do that well. I think Jake is going to get traded to the Cubs soon…NOT GOOD!!

You’re the most gracious fan I’ve ever “met,” Happy. Most of us would be grumbling about losing CC and start bashing him. Instead, you’re grateful for the work he did for the Brewers. You’re my new role model.

Kaybee…
that’s just the nature of the beast, I guess. No end to the current system in sight.
My next post will be how screwed the Brewers will be if Peavy goes to the Cubs.

Jane…
I guess it’s because, like you, I understand and accept the system that MLB has in place. The “informed” fans seem to take these things a little more in stride.
Role model? Wow…coming from you, Jane, that’s hefty praise.

“Happy”

“Knock me over with a feather”. Never saw this coming! Glad you’re taking it so well Happy. As fan it is tough sometimes and we forget that first and foremost this is a business. A bottom-lined driven business. I wish it wasn’t so, but alas it is. Good luck – I wish the Brewers well.

I’m not mad at C.C. either, except for the fact that he put some false hope in Doug Melvin that was passed onto us Brewers fans the other day.
I am however sick and tired of the Yankees! And thats where I will direct my anger!
