2009 MVP, CY Young and ROY predictions

It’s March 12th, 2009.
Time to make some preseason award predictions.  It’s always fun to predict the award winners, then look back at the end of the season and see how close you hit on them.
Make sure you include your predictions as well!!

Let me start with my favorite player.  An absolute stud.

Last night in the WBC game vs. Venezuela, you may have noticed a young star by the name of Ryan Braun (temporarily wearing #18) continue to mash.  Although the United States lost the game, he went 3-4 with a double, a pair of singles and an RBI.  The only time Venezuelan pitching retired him was on a 400 foot flyout to deep centerfield.

He collected 3 of USA’s 7 hits in the game.
He looks ready to start the season.

So, I will go on record March 12th saying, “Braun will win the 2009 National League MVP Award.”

Am I a homer?
Absolutely.  But, I truly believe this guy will rake in 2009.

Here’s a picture of a few memorabilia items I have collected from Braun…

’nuff said.

Here’s the rest of my 2009 award predictions.

2009 AL MVP
Mark teixeira yankees.jpg

MARK TEIXEIRA
This guy has it all…plus hitting 3rd in the Yankees lineup won’t hurt.

2009 NL CY YOUNG

CARLOS ZAMBRANO
As much as it pains me to say it…he’s good.  If he can lower his ERA, the wins will be there and he will take this award.

2009 AL CY YOUNG
Jon Lester.jpg

JON LESTER

This kid is damn good.  Plus, he has the offensive power behind him to rack up 20 wins in ’09.

2009 NL ROY

CAMERON MAYBIN
The centerfield job in Florida is his.
Welcome him to the show.

2009 AL ROY

DAVID PRICE
Still considered a rookie in ’09, that offense behind him makes this young stud the obvious favorite to bring home the hardware.

So, who do you think will bring home these awards?

I want your predictions/thoughts!!

I will post a blog at the all-star break with everyone’s predictions, an updated stats check of your picks along with links to everyone’s blog.

Good luck!

Sorry, Mr. Braun, but Mr. Pujols is winning back-to-back MVP’s!
Great post!

KATHY…
Your prediction has been recorded.
We’ll agree to disagree ;)

I like the Braun prediction. He looks like he’s in mid-season form already. I hope you’re wrong on Zambrano — for both of our sake’s.

JEFF…
Yeah, Braun is a special player.
I hope I’m wrong about Zambrano, too. I like the Cubs about as much as I like rashes and overpaying for a crappy meal. Zambrano included.

“Happy”

I like your AL MVP pick, naturally! So I’ll vote for Tex. The Cy Young is such a crap shoot. Who would have predicted Cliff Lee last year? I’m going with Roy Halladay to win another one. (See? I’m not that big a homer.)

The ROY darkhorses are Matt Wieters in the AL (some conisder him the favorite) and Andrew McCutchen in the NL. As for my predictions, Jane is right. It is completely too hard to tell now. Last year I thought Sabathia should have won MVP since he singlehandedly put the Brewers into the playoffs, but the baseball writers messed up.

JANE…
got your picks recorded. Tex for AL MVP and Halladay for AL CY.

METSMAINMAN…
So, your voting AL ROY to Wieters and NL ROY to McCutchen. Got it. It’s never too early to start forecasting these things!

I’m going for Pedroia to repeat!

Julia

JULIA…
Pedroia is a good young player…you homer!
Just kidding…I’m as big a homer as anyone.
Pedroia it is. Now, let’s wait and see…

Anyone else care to predict????

“Happy”

Zambrano?!?! are you sucking up to Cub fans? I would probably choose a healthy Harden, but that’s like picking the Cubs not to choke in the post-season…
Anyway, I’m glad Braun is up there, that’s all I really care about.

NL MVP: I agree with you. I think Ryan Braun will win this.
NL Cy Young: I am going to go out on a limb here and say Chris Carpenter. I think he is healthy and all the way back this year.
NL ROY: No clue.
These awards you will see my incredible bias and complete and total inability to look at anything in the American League or central division objectively.
AL MVP: Grady Sizemore. I actually think he has a pretty good chance to win this so I don’t feel too biased saying this.
AL Cy Young: Fausto Carmona. This one I feel a little bit more biased about but I think if he is his 2007 self and probably better he will win this and the Indians will have back to back to back y Young winners.
AL ROY: Again. Absolutely no idea.

NICHOLAS…
sucking up to Cubs fans??? Noooooooooo!!!!
Seriously, Zambrano is a good pitcher. I wished he pitched for the Brewers. That doesn’t mean I like him, I just think he’ll have over 20 wins this season-let’s face it…the Scrubs, err, Cubs will be tough to beat.

LISSI…
Nice picks. Actually, Sizemore was my runner-up. So, that’s not a bad pick at all. Carmona is a good pitcher, we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the picks.
Come July, it will be interesting to see how close we are!

Happy-Loved the autographed set. That’s kind of what I’m trying to do. Get different items autographed from the same player. Ticket stub, ball, bat, etc. I don’t have any gloves but that’s a nice touch. I don’t know enough about other teams to make predictions otherwise I would. I will jump on the bandwagon and pick Grady Sizemore for the AL MVP. I can’t wait to read some snaggin stories brotha…That’s what its all about. Lets make some history…D

D…
I can’t wait to start making some snaggin stories!! I’m down with making a little history.
Only 14 days until I do my version of Spring Training blogs. I arrive in Phoenix on the 27th of March. Then, let the snaggin’ begin!

Happy,
This is very interesting, all of it! Very cool memorabilia from Ryan Braun by the way. I think that Tex could win the AL MVP award, but I don’t know, I just don’t see it. Don’t worry, I don’t see Pedroia repeating either– but I do see another great year for him. I’m gonna think these through, and get back to you lol.

Very cool Rya Braun memorabilia, but I’m going to have to get back to you on my predictions!

Hey Happy,
Thanks for visting my blog and great predictions! Also, the Braun memorabillia looks spectacular! I am having a mock draft on my blog tomorrow at 7:00 and I was wondering if you would like to participate. You can let me know by leaving a comment on my blog indicating if you would like to before 6:00 PM tomorrow.

Thanks,

Who to choose, who to choose? At the risk of being a total homer, I’ll pick:
NL MVP – Ryan Howard (assuming he avoids slow start, and he’s looking pretty good so far in ST)
NL CY – if he pitches like he did in the postseason, Cole Hamels
AL MVP – Evan Longoria
AL CY – Jon Lester
I’ve got no clue who are supposed to be the hot rookies this year.

MANOMAN…
sorry I missed your fantasy draft. I’ve been out of town. I hope it went well!

SUE…
Howard for MVP? Way to go out on a limb! Just kidding. With that ballpark, it’s no wonder a Phillie wins it every year. I could hit 10-15 home runs in that park. Maybe not.
Hamels is a stud-good pick.
Longoria in his 2nd year. That would be impressive. He’s got the talents to get it done.
Lester-we agree!!
Thanks for your picks, Sue!!

I have it in my last post, but here’s a quick roundup:
AL MVP: Mark Teixeira
NL MVP: Albert Pujols
AL CY: Roy Halladay
NL CY: Tim Lincecum
AL ROY: Matt Wieters
NL ROY: David Freese
(And I also predict Cleveland will win the WS)

AARON…
thanks for your picks. Those sound pretty good to me.
We’ll soon see!
